People will insult you and hurt you

Matthew Chapter 5 11-12 People did these same bad things to the prophets who lived before you

11 “People will insult you and hurt you. They will lie and say all kinds of evil things about you because you follow me. But when they do that, know that great blessings belong to you. 12 Be happy about it. Be very glad because you have a great reward waiting for you in heaven. People did these same bad things to the prophets who lived before you.

Then Jesus began teaching the people

Matthew Chapter 5

1 When Jesus saw the crowds of people there, he went up on a hill and sat down. His followers came and sat next to him.
2 Then Jesus began teaching the people. He said,
3 “Great blessings belong to those who know they are spiritually in need.
God’s kingdom belongs to them.
4 Great blessings belong to those who are sad now.
God will comfort them.
5 Great blessings belong to those who are humble.
They will be given the land God promised.
6 Great blessings belong to those who want to do right more than anything else.
God will fully satisfy them.
7 Great blessings belong to those who show mercy to others.
Mercy will be given to them.
8 Great blessings belong to those whose thoughts are pure.
They will be with God.
9 Great blessings belong to those who work to bring peace.
God will call them his sons and daughters.
10 Great blessings belong to those who suffer persecution for doing what is right.
God’s kingdom belongs to them.

What do you think about the most?

Tell me what that is upon which you most frequently and intensely think, that to which, in your silent hours, your soul most naturally turns, and I will tell you to what place of pain or peace you are traveling, and whether you are growing into the likeness of the divine or the flesh.

Your spiritual life hitting a brick wall

Your spiritual life hitting a brick wall

There has become an unavoidable tendency to become literally the embodiment of that quality upon which we most think upon.

Let, therefore, the object of your prayer be above and not below, so that every time you revert to it in thought you will be lifted up; let it be pure and unmixed with any selfish element, so shall your heart becomes purified and drawn nearer to the truth, and not defiled and dragged more hopelessly into error.

Nothing will so test and stimulate the Christian life as an honest attempt to think above and not below. It is difficult to conceive how much we ourselves and the Church will be the gainers if with our whole heart we accept the post of honor God is offering us. Prayer, in the spiritual sense, is the secret of all growth in spiritual life and knowledge.

There may be an earnest Christian life in which there is prayer enough to keep us from going back, and just maintain the position we have attained to, without much …

The best time for spiritual instruction

Morning time is the best time for spiritual instruction

Pray often throughout the morning

Select some portions throughout the morning in which to pray, and keep that period sacred to your purpose.
The best time is the very early morning when the spirit is upon everything. The worries of the previous day will have died away, and the mind, strong and yet restful, will be receptive to spiritual instruction. Christ actually meant prayer to be the great power by which His Church should do its work, and that the neglect of prayer is the great reason the Church has not greater power. Morning prayer can be realized in a measure which we could not have thought possible before.

In morning prayer our King upon the throne finds His highest glory; in it, we shall find our highest glory too. Through it, He continues His saving work, and can do nothing without it; through it alone we can do our work, and nothing avails without it. In it He even receives from the Father the Holy Spirit and all sp…
